Dear Torbay Sailing Club Members, We have recently completed our 2021/2022 sailing calendar with a successful running of our annual club championships. This was the culmination of a turbulent year of a late season start and the unfortunate cancellation of our Sir Peter Blake Torbay Regatta. The second half of the season was very successful so hopefully the early disruption is a now distant memory. It is now time to celebrate the season with our prize giving event which for this year is set for Saturday 18th June. You are invited to join us from 5pm onwards. More information will come in due course, but there will be some sort of dinner arrangement for a small fee, and a great time had. It is really important to come and congratulate those who have succeeded this season within our club. But also, really important to turn up for the following. The prizegiving is where we begin the process of receiving nominations for elected positions. We also look to fill other roles within the club for the upcoming season, in this case the 2022/2023 season. Please note nominations may be received after the prizegiving until 7 days prior the AGM in writing. At the most recent General Committee meeting, we have had some members indicate that they will be stepping away from various positions so we will be looking for enthusiastic people to fill these roles. As elected positions (after ratification at the AGM) do not take effect until the beginning of the new season being the 1st of September, you will have the opportunity to work alongside the person whose role you will be taking on. Here is a brief run-down of what will be on the whiteboard at the prizegiving for you to put your name against, or put nominations in for. Please send any nominations to secretary@torbaysailingclub.org.nz, before the prizegiving. A nomination form is attached. Flag officers: Commodore, Vice-Commodore, Rear Commodore, Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer General committee: Flag officers, plus 5 - 10 other members Sailing committee: Rear-commodore (chair), plus up to 15 other members including fleet captains Other roles: Heaps of them, if everyone just does a little bit. See attached document. We are working on drafting up some information around the roles. If you have any queries in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact David (021 628 847), Mark (021 710 723) or Linda (021 266 0496). ![]()

Great news confirmed today, we will be going into the Covid Protection Framework - Red light level, as of Friday 3rd December. This means we can now re-open our club house to members. The General Committee have now approved our new vaccination policy which we will need to adopt to enable us to enter the areas we have had no entry to for the past few months.
Our policy can be viewed at the following link. https://go.torbaysailing.club/VaccinationPolicy Essentially, the club facilities, not including the boat shed will be open only for fully vaccinated members who have a vaccination pass. Children under 12yrs and 3mths are treated as fully vaccinated. All other areas as per our existing Covid Policy. Masks will be required indoors. To streamline the collection of vaccination status from members, please upload your vaccination pass to the following link. https://go.torbaysailing.club/VaccinePassUploadForm The data collected will be stored securely and only key committee members have access to this information. If anyone is concerned about privacy, they can discuss their concerns with David Wright (Commodore). If anyone has difficulties uploading their pass, it can be resolved when you come the club and we can scan your pass. Cancellation of 2020 Ronstan/Mainstay Marine J14 & Sunburst Nationals March 17th 2020
Dear Competitors, Volunteers & Sponsors, Unfortunately, due to the rapidly evolving situation with Covid-19 in New Zealand, Torbay Sailing Club has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Ronstan/Mainstay Marine J14 & Sunburst Nationals this coming weekend, 20-22 March 2020. This decision is not made lightly, however the Club recognises that the focus needs to be on prevention of the virus spread and supporting our communities. The health safety and wellbeing of our sailors and members is paramount. More information is to follow. Hey team!
There has been a fair bit going on behind the scenes, even if we haven't all seen each other on the water recently! Firstly, we are sporting some fantastic new shelves in the office. Thanks to Rod and Heidi for this, and Mark for the final installation. What a difference this will make to hopefully having a tidier office! Secondly, we are super excited to take possession of the first of two new RIBs from Southern Pacific Inflatables. These new 3.4m RIBs will replace our old Torbay 1 and 4 tiller steers. Thanks to the general committee for the approval of this a couple of months back. Thirdly, some of you are aware that Lily Zhang was instrumental in helping us fund the club tractor. It has come a point where the tractor is undergoing some maintenance this winter. Thanks to Ken for leading the charge on this one. Many other things also, but too many to list! What is coming up? THIS WEEK: Tuesday 2nd July - Sailing Committee meeting 7pm Thursday 4th July - Race Theory Night, topic of Starting 6.30pm Sat/Sun 6th/7th July - Manly Mid Winter Champs: Hope to see a strong Torbay contingent here. Entries close on Wednesday. OTHER KEY DATES: Fri 19th - Sun 21st July - TORBAY CLUB CAMP: costs TBC, but two days of coaching, sleep over in the club, a similar repeat of a cooking challenge, and more. Saturday 3rd August - FIrst Aid Course: Still some spaces left Friday 30th August - TORBAY AGM: with another draw card to be announced....... Hey everyone,
A bit late, but as per the calendar, tonight is a fun night planned. There is no set plan on what this entails, and would like the sailors, or attendees to drive this in terms of what is fun for them. If you have any suggestions, then let us know. Aiming for a 6.30pm start, and it doesn't have to stay at the club. We can venture out :) |
