Optimist at Torbay
The Optimist is New Zealand’s and the worlds leading learn to sail yacht for youngsters. It is well established globally and as a result it hosts international, national and regional competitions. Torbay Sailing Club is extremely proud of its approach to youth sailing, finding a comfortable balance between hard out racing and all inclusive family activity on and off the water. Torbay has one of the best coaching programs in Auckland with all club members receiving small ratio training with top coaches. Training/coaching is every Sunday, plus optional mid week in summer and at selected regattas. Once sailors achieve Open status they are encouraged to enter regattas throughout NZ and over the past 10 years this has seen Torbay sailors frequently rated in the top 25 in New Zealand. Torbay has had a number of sailors representing NZ on the international stage.
