The Sir Peter Blake Torbay Regatta
This regatta is now firmly established as the largest centreboard regatta, and also the largest two day sailing regatta in New Zealand. This event is also formally recognised as a ‘major regatta’ by Yachting New Zealand.
Now past its tenth year, this annual event held on the first full weekend in December every year hosts both youth and senior dinghy classes. Last year’s event attracted over 400 sailors competing in 17 different classes. Competitors travel from throughout NZ to attend and typically a handful of international sailors attend. The event continues to build in size, professionalism and status each year. Now with the addition of event and corporate sponsorship it has become a highly visual event on the sailing calendar.
Approximately 2,500 people are likely to attend the regatta, including competitors, supporters, support crew and families.
